An Open Letter to MoveOn.org

I am just as much progressive as everyone of the hard-working people at MoveOn.org and am doing what I can to help elect Obama.

However, I think that MoveOn might make a bigger impact if you learned from the masters, and by that I mean the Republicans.

I’ve seen a number of recent e-mails lamenting the horrible ads and slander of the McCain campaign that beg the membership to donate so that the truth can be told.

With all due respect, you guys just don’t get it.  It is much easier to sew doubt that convince someone of something.  As a result, your efforts would be much better spent generating media that generated doubt about him.

Something like this video ad:

Sinister, or perhaps old-timey music fades in (I’d have to think about the music some more)

McCain video with him saying that the economy is sound and strong, with date in bottom – left.

fade to:

McCain video that shows him admitting he doesn’t understand the economy, dated

fade to:

Stuttering video of him being clueless about how many houses he owns, dated

fade to:

Video of him saying that the economy is having a hard time, dated

fade to some horrible press photo of him looking clueless on one side, with a montage of people who are bumming that fade in and fade out on the other side.

Voice-Over:

Does McCain really have a handle on the economy?  Can a man who doesn’t even know how many houses he ownes have any idea of what you are experiencing in these troubled times?  Do we want to give the Republicans four more years?

Voila!  Doubt!  Not lies, just using the rich fodder that McCain has practically given us on a silver platter.

Unfortunately, we live in an era where truth and issues have been replaced with spin and attack ads, and if we (meaning all progressives) don’t catch a clue fast, we are going to lose yet another election (and we can kiss the supreme court goodbye).

When I was a little boy, I got beat up on the playground at school almost everday.  I tried talking to the bullies, tried hiding from the bullies, tried everything I could.  I didn’t get left alone until I broke one of there noses.  Know why?  Because that’s all they understood.  It wasn’t their fault, I didn’t want to do it, but they gave me no choice.

The progressive movement in this country is in the same position.  If we don’t take the gloves off and start bloodying some noses, we are all sunk.

A Changing Political Lanscape Requires a Different Tune

Well, since Edwards has dropped out of the race and now it’s between Obama and Clinton, I’m changing my tune.

Obama is our best bet for a win, as a result I’m supporting him as the nominee.

Why? Hillary can’t win a general election and here are what I think are the reasons why:

  • There are many people who will cast a vote against her vs. for McCain
  • If she is the nominee it will galvanize the Republicans behind McCain and will bring them together. Our best bet is to keep them fractured and complaining about McCain not being a real conservative. Hillary on the ticket will cause the folks who would otherwise stay home to run, not walk, to the polls to vote for McCain
  • She won’t get a single Republican vote and will get very few Independents
  • She doesn’t energize the youth vote like Obama. Obama will turn out the 18-25 like never before
  • She can’t say that she was against the war to begin with

So, unless you want to help put McCain in the White House and have four more years of a pseudo Bush administration, I would strongly suggest voting for Obama in the primaries.

I would much rather have a Democrat in the oval office when the next Supreme Court Justice retires.

Kerry’s Trying to Screw Things Up . . . Again

Dear Mr. Kerry,

It wasn’t bad enough that you choked on defending yourself from Bush’s swift-boating and your huge gaff just before the ’06 election, now you are supporting Obama?

Dude, please, for the good of the country, just go home and keep your mouth shut.

The Democrats best bet for a win in ’08 is Edwards and you seem to have turned your back on him.

Hopefully, your reputation will help pull Obama out of the top tier and let Edwards go on to a nomination.

More proof positive that you have no clue what you doing.

Who should really be apologizing for the fallout of Kerry’s gaff is Democrats

Unbelievable! Horrible! Worst thing that you could have done at this point in the campaign!

Kerry’s botched "joke" this past Monday? Nope. The fact that the Democrats cowered like spineless rats after the NeoCons went on the attack. They misssed their opportunity to take control of the final week in the campaign and remind everyone why they shouldn’t vote for the Republicans:

The completely botched war in Iraq
The Bush administration lying to the country about WMD
The Republican corruption in congress
The cover-up of a know pedophile in congress
The Republicans that have bankrupted our country
The torture of prisoners
The erosion of our civil rights and our constitution

. . . and I could go on and on . . .

If they had done it correctly, Kerry would be campaigning at every battle ground rally and using the aformentioned points to further erode any chance of Republican victory.

But, yet again, the Democrats run like scared children when the NeoCons go on the attack and they still haven’t learned the power of sticking together and staying on message.

Bush’s Resolve Might Again Come Back to Bite Him

It seems that Bush’s resolve not only applies to policy but also to politicking.

This week Bush was out stumping for Republicans in Congress and is sticking to the playbook from the last two elections – national security, with a bit of tax cut talk.

I’m guessing that he hasn’t read the most recent NIE in which the 16 US intelligence agencies all agree that the war in Iraq has made the United States less safe.

Of course, he could just be hoping that if he says something enough times people will believe it regardless of it’s veracity like was done in ’04 regarding Iraq and it’s ties to Al Qaeda.

It could pay off for him, but it could also backfire horribly.

The House approves legislation to shutdown horsemeat industry . . .

. . . and reveals blatant specism when it comes to animal rights.

One of the authors of the bill, Rep. John Sweeney, R-N.Y., said, “What we are exposing today is a brutal, shadowy, predatory shameful practice that borders on the perverse. It reflects on our culture. It reflects on our priorities.”

Mr. Sweeney, I’m guessing that you’ve never toured a factory chicken, or hog farm, nor seen how they are slaughtered.

Oh, wait, I forgot that you probably don’t care much about the horses either, but about winning support from the horse racing folks in your district so that you can get re-elected this November.

The fact that Congress is wasting it’s time on this when we have so many other important issues to deal with, like a gay marriage amendment, and flag burning (I’m being really sarcastic) underscores the fact that you should be sent home this November and that we need some real leaders, not politicians, running the government.

Mr. Bush, are we really safer?

George W. Bush weighs in today about the airline bombing plot that was uncovered in Britain. He says that America is safer now than it was on September 11th, and indicates that it is a "stark reminder that his [Britain] nation is at war with Islamic fascists.".

It also seems that this is a stark reminder that almost 5 years since September 11th that we really aren’t any safer. We are simply dodging bullets and getting lucky enough not to let any of these plots come to fruition.

It is a stark reminder of the failed policies of the Bush administration in that there hasn’t been any progress made in the "war on terror".

With each plot that is revealed and held up to the media as a triumph, I suggest that it is further evidence of failure. Being successful in curbing terrorism isn’t a matter of catching these plots before they come to fruition, but on understanding and addressing the reasons why there are people who want to wage these sorts of attacks.

A "stark reminder"? Yes, that we are losing this so called war.

New element found – Bushcronium

Sent to me by Duncan:

A major research institution has just announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element has been named "Bushcronium."

Bushcronium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an Atomic mass of 311. These 311 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Bushcronium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Bushcronium causes one reaction to take over 4 days to complete when it would normally take less than a second. Bushcronium has a normal half-life of multiples of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Bushcronium’s mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to believe that Bushcronium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass."

When catalyzed with money, Bushcronium activates Foxnewsium, an element which radiates orders of magnitude, more energy, albeit as incoherent noise, since it has 1/2 as many peons but twice as many morons.
